Field Trip: Lowell Mills

Lowell Mills:  "Yankees and Immigrants Experience"

On our field trip to Lowell Mills, students had the opportunity to step into the shoes of immigrants that came to live and work in Lowell, Massachusetts.  Students took on the identity of an immigrant and experienced what it was like to leave their homeland in search of a better life.

Once students had their "new identities" they worked with others from their homeland to unpack suitcases that illustrated the contributions from their culture.

Students then had the opportunity to attend a "mock" town meeting, where they shared their views and voted on whether or not to fund a school for Irish children in the acre.
